COVER FURNITURE AND FLOORS
| Remove everything you can from the room, e.g., lamps, pictures, ect. Roll up area rugs and cover. Cover remaining with drop cloths. Avoid using newspapers, they'll leave an inky residue. |
REMOVE HARDWARE
| Painting around it is very inefficient. Remove switch plates, doorknobes, ect. Loosen set screws and lower ceilling fixtures |
STRIP PEELING, FLAKING PAINT
| Using a putty knife or scraper, sand areas of light flaking or peeling paint. For thicker, more stubborn coats, use a liquid paint remover. Follow usage directions carefully on all paint removers. Use an orbital or belt sander on all large areas. |
COVER CRACKS AND HOLES
| Fill in nail holes, cracks and joint gaps with a patching compound, such as our Moorlastic Lightweight Spackling Compound. For larger holes, use plaster anchored with wire screen or use "harware cloth". Sand smooth and level with adjacent surfaces. Prime larger repaired surfaces with primer, smaller areas can be spot primed with your top coat. |
REMOVE WALLPAPER
| Use a chemical wallpaper remover or rented steamer and remember to also remove residual paste. Removal is best, but in cases where paper is still firmly adhered to the wall, you can prime the surface with Benjamin Moore Fresh Start all purpose primer. |
WASH WALLS
| To ensure paint adheres well, clean walls of dust and dirt. If they are especially grimy or are kitchen and bath walls, use Benjamin Moore Oil & Grease Emulsifier. Glossy surfaces must also be sanded. |
